ROTARY INTERNATIONAL IS THE ORGANIZATION WITH MORE CLUBS IN THE WORLD.
CLUB ROTARIO OLLIN IN THE CITY Of QUERETARO, IS ONE OF THEM. IT WAS FOUNDED IN 1997 WHEN A GROUP OF PROFESSIONAL WOMEN STARTED GETTING TOGETHER WITH THE PURPOSE OF SERVING THEIR COMMUNITY. THE NAME OF THE CLUB WAS TAKEN FROM THE AZTEC CALENDAR.
AZTEC CALENDAR OR “THE STONE OF THE SUN”
IT IS PROBABLY THE OLDEST MONOLITH FROM THE PREHISPANIC CULTURE. IT WAS BUILT AROUND 1479. IT IS A ROCK WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 25 TONS WITH A DIAMETER OF 3.58 METERS. THE STONE HAS A DECORATION OF SEVERAL CIRCLES WHICH REPRESENT IN THE CENTER THE FACE OF TONATIUH (THE GOD OF THE SUN) HOLDING IN HIS MOUTH THE SACRIFICE´S KNIFE.
The OLLIN symbol is framing the face of the sun. This symbol means “movement“ and has four sides that represent the four suns or previous ages. Just like in other mythologies the aztecs believed in the existence of other worlds and they had the idea that these worlds had come to and end due to different cataclysms.
